The Invention of Wings has been long listed for the 2016 International DUBLIN Literary Award. The nominees were announced on November 9 in Dublin, Ireland. Presented annually for a novel written in English or translated into English, the award is unique in its coverage of international fiction. Titles are nominated by library systems in major cities throughout the world on the basis of high literary merit. The 2016 long list includes novels from 44 countries.

The Invention of Wings won the 2015 SIBA Book Award for Fiction. Nominated by Southern indie booksellers and readers and selected by a jury of Southern booksellers, SIBA Book Award winners “represent the best of Southern literature.”

Sue’s first novel, The Secret Life of Bees won the SIBA Book Award in 2003.

The Invention of Wings has sold more than one million copies in the 12 ½ months since its publication in January 2014.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania will present its prestigious 2015 Founder’s
Award to Sue for “exemplary service to history and in recognition of
her novels which have served as an entry point to the appreciation of
American history.” The award will be presented in Philadelphia in
May.

Sue’s novel, The Invention of Wings has won the 2014 Florida Book Award Gold Medal in General Fiction. Coordinated by the Florida State University Libraries, the Florida Book Awards is the nation’s most comprehensive state book awards program. It was established in 2006 to celebrate the best Florida literature. The award will be presented in April at the Florida Book Awards banquet in Tallahassee. The Invention of Wings was awarded Elle Magazine’s Grand Prix Reader’s Prize for favorite book of fiction for 2014.

Library Journal selected The Invention of Wings as one their Best Book’s of 2014, and it was runner up for the 2014 Goodreads Choice Award for Historical Fiction.

Google’s ‘The Year In Search’ documented The Invention of Wings as the years 6th most searched book title.

The Invention of Wings was listed on Amazon’s 100 Best Books of 2014 and was just announced as Amazon’s top selling book title for 2014.
